Este avión junto con su gemelo EC-BXN, fueron los dos primeros Canadair que adquirió España, aunque portaban matrículas civiles siempre volaron con el Ejército del Aire. Llegaron en Octubre de 1971 en principio fueron adscritos al Servicio de Búsqueda y Salvamento (SAR), pero esto fue por poco tiempo ya que se les asignaría identificación militar este avión sería el UD.13-1.
