Este avión de entrenamiento fue el producto de un cambio que se acordó con el gobierno chileno, España importarían un número de "Pillán", a cambio que Chile lo haría montando en Chile una serie del CASA C.101, allí denominado "Halcón" como avión de ataque aire-tierra.
