Este aparato se utilizó por el famoso "Dryden Flight Research Center" de la NASA en diversos proyectos a aplicar en aviones civiles.

Para algunos de esos estudios se instaló una turbina de aire sobre el pilón que puede verse en la parte superior del fuselaje.
