Este avión en concreto es el tercer Wildcat fabricado por General Motors, de ahí su designación FM-1, equivalente a un F4F-4 de los fabricados por Grumman. Hizo un amerizaje de emergencia el 3 de septiembre de 1943 en el lago Michigan, de donde fue sacado años más tarde para ser restaurado.
