Rival del B-727, el Trident podía llevar 109 pasajeros. En vuelos de prueba alcanzó la velocidad de Mach 0.96 en un ligero picado realizado entre 30.000 y 24.000 pies. Fue uno más de los intentos británicos en competir con los transportes a reacción norteamericanos. Básicamente fue empleado en las líneas inglesas además de Iraqi Airways y Kuwait Airways.

Aquí vemos a uno de los Comet de BEA en El Prat. Fue el primer reactor comercial en entrar en servicio pero no le acompañó la suerte y tuvo que dejar paso a sus competidores americanos.

El G-AWZB con plena actividad de handling a su alrededor, guardia civil incluido. Lo estrenó BEA en agosto de 1970 por lo tanto cuando hice la foto sólo tenía dos años. Pasó a British Airways y retirado del servicio en noviembre de 1983, desguazado en junio de 1984.
La terraza del Prat era una maravilla,un lugar donde te podías quedar sordo en aquella época en que los aviones hacían ruido de avión.
El DC-9 de Iberia que hay detrás es el EC-BYJ.
Lamento la poca calidad de la foto.

Semejante el B-727 de Boeing, el Trident fue un intento más de la industria inglesa para competir con los modelos comerciales made in USA. Diseñado, como otros modelos ingleses según los requerimientos de la BEA, el Trident,a pesar de ser un buen avión capaz de llevar 109 pasajeros en clase turista, no obtuvo pedidos por parte de las aerolíneas europeas. El tipo sentado mirando el avión os puede dar una idea de lo fácil que era estar cerca para poder hacer fotos a los aviones a pesar de no tener teleobjetivo.

Esta foto ilustra sobre el estado en que se encontraba nuestro EdA en esta época. Al lado de un moderno trirreactor de la BEA podemos ver a un más que veterano "Junkers" español. Vale, los dos son trimotores pero el abismo técnico que les separa es tan grande que parece imposible que pudieran coincidir en un aeropuerto.

Un aparato precioso , en aquella epoca tenía una frecuencia en PMI de tres por semana los otros aparatos de BEA eran los Viscaunts, estos eran mas numerosos .

Este avión hacía la línea regular entre Málaga Y Londres.A la izquierda podemos ver parcialmente un DC-4 de Spantax EC-AEP que volaba casi a diario en vuelos Charter entre Málaga y Tánger.

Vieja fotografía de mi archivo de la llegada a BCN de este bimotor inglés de la desaparecida aerolínea BEA. Me encanta el señalero con sus aparatosas banderas, el maletero que espera el equipaje con su carretilla y la pareja que va charlando de sus cosas como si estuvieran de paseo. ¡Qué tiempos aquellos!

Este transporte fue diseñado para las rutas medias europeas. Capaz de llevar 47 pasajeros entró en servicio en la compañía BEA en el año 1952. Creo recordar que uno de estos aviones sufrió un grave accidente al despegar en medio de una tormenta de nieve en el que perecieron los componentes del equipo de fútbol del Manchester United.

En esta otra foto puede apreciase el parecido del Trident con el Boeing 727. El Trident realizó su primer vuelo el 9 de enero de 1962, y el primer ejemplar de producción en un vuelo de prueba y en un suave picado de 30.000 hasta 24.00 pies alcanzó el número de Mach 0.96. Sin duda era un buen avión que no resistió sin embargo la competencia de sus rivales norteamericanos.
