cn 12779 comenzó su vida operativa allá por con la USAAF (precursora de la USAF) como 42-92924. transferido en 1952 a la US Navy que lo modificó a R4D-8Z (C-117) teniendo capacidad para volar desde la costa Oeste de los EEUU hasta Hawaii. Su vida civil se inició en 1983 y a día de hoy permanece en perfectas condiciones de vuelo.
