Personalmente mi avión militar favorito, y además mucho antes de que se estrenase la primera Top Gun allá por 1986, posiblemente me influyese más la peli "El final de la cuenta atrás" de 1980.
Afortunadamente lo pude ver en vivo en bastantes ocasiones a bordo de diversos portaaviones pero tras mucho años sin contemplar uno lo he encontrado enorme, no lo recordaba tan grande. Eso sí sigue siendo igual de bonito.
El ejemplar que vemos resplandeciente fue entregado a la USN el 8 de diciembre de 1978 y es el msn 303. Operó para los escuadrones VF-111 y VF-124. No fue actualizado a la versión "C" y el 26 de septiembre de 1994 fue transferido al AMARC con el número de inventario 1K0069.
Cedido al Museo Pima, el 9 de septiembre de 2011 fue restaurado y recibió los colores del VF-111 tal y como las lucía en el USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) en 1979.

AA-207 from VF-103 "Jolly Rogers" on board USS Enterprise. This was the last VF squadron wich used the name "Jolly Rogers". Previously had been used by VF-17, VF-61, and VF-84
In 1996 VF-103 became the first Tomcat squadron to introduce the LANTIRN targeting pod to operational service. The LANTIRN radically improved the F-14's strike capabilities by providing an autonomous precision strike capability.
